tastytrade Introduces a Flat 6.75% Margin Rate
New accounts and clients who bring in $25,000 or more in new assets can borrow at 6.75% on their full margin balance
tastytrade is introducing a flat 6.75% margin rate*, giving traders a simpler, lower cost of borrowing. The rate is available to all accounts opened on or after October 23, 2026, and to existing clients who transfer in $25,000 or more in net new assets from another institution on or after October 23, 2026. All other accounts remain on tastytrade’s standard margin rate schedule.
Unlike tiered margin schedules, where the rate depends on the size of the balance, the new rate is a single flat 6.75%. Once an account qualifies, that rate applies to the entire margin balance, including any balance carried before the account qualified. Like all margin rates, the 6.75% rate may change, including in response to changes in the federal funds rate.
“Margin is one of the most important tools our traders use, and the cost of borrowing should be simple to understand,” said Joe Corso, Head of Brokerage at tastytrade/IGNA. “A flat 6.75% rate gives traders a competitive rate and a clear path to get it, whether they’re opening a new account or bringing more of their portfolio to tastytrade.”
How to qualify for the 6.75% margin rate
New accounts opened on or after October 23, 2026, receive the 6.75% rate automatically when a margin account is opened at tastytrade.
Existing clients qualify by bringing in $25,000 or more in net new assets from outside tastytrade, through an ACAT transfer or a wire, on or after October 23, 2026. Once an account qualifies, the new rate applies starting with the next monthly interest cycle on the 15th.
What counts toward the $25,000
Only assets coming in from outside tastytrade count toward qualifying. Transfers between a client’s own tastytrade accounts don’t count, and neither does borrowing additional funds on margin.

* The 6.75% rate equals Base Rate minus 3.25% and will change, without prior notice, whenever the Base Rate changes in response to Federal Reserve rate decisions; ‘flat’ means one rate regardless of balance size. tastytrade can modify or discontinue this rate with at least 30 days’ written notice to affected accounts.
Full eligibility details, including what counts as new assets and when the rate takes effect, are available in the tastytrade help center. Current margin rates for all accounts are listed on the tastytrade pricing page.
Trading in a margin account is not suitable for all investors as trading on increased leverage can result in significant losses in the event of adverse market movements. It is important that investors understand the risks involved in trading securities on margin prior to investing in a margin account. Please read the Margin Disclosure Statement.
